Black Box available for Pre-order

The Black Box multimedia charity anthology is a project of Brimstone Press and author/editor Shane Jiraiya Cummings to "help further the craft of dark fiction in Australia."
Dark, surreal flash fiction stories by international contributors (including two Camille Alexa stories: "Kisses for Wishes" and "Visiting the Bone Merchant"), music, visual art, and "multimedia nastiness and surprises." I'm not sure what that last entails, but I'm intrigued by the concept of a collaborative multimedia anthology.
This one should please the horror fans.

ACK! My story up at Escape Pod RIGHT NOW!

Holy Freakin' Moly!

I decided -- totally randomly and without a meaningful thought in my sleep-deprived head (celebrated completion/send-off of two stories last night by staying up 'til 4am playing good ol' Age of Empires) to check the links on my Littlebird sidebar for functionality.

I begin at the top of the list. Escape Pod....WHOA! Not only is it working, it leads DIRECTLY TO MY STORY.

It's hilarious, because I didn't think of this as a YA story. Not really. Not particularly. But I suppose it is. I just wrote the story that wanted to be written at the time.

And it's amazing to hear your work interpreted by someone else! When I read "Flaming Marshmallow and Other Deaths" aloud to myself, Carolyn is considerably more disgruntled, quiet, socially misfitty. More like I was, I guess, though no parent wants to know the kinds of stuff I was doing at the age of 16.

So. Check it out. "Flaming Marshmallow and Other Deaths " on Escape Pod.

[edited to add: Thanks to Dani Cutler (of Truth Seekers and The Audio Addicts) for the reading.]

To go, or not to go...

So. Class reunions: hate them? Love them? Go to them? Run shrieking in terror from them? Or the ever-popular, bored witless by the very idea?
Please advise and explain.

Sale to Ruins Metropolis Anthology

The attentive Ken McConnell has pointed out I haven't even mentioned the sale of my story "Veilsight" to Hadley Rille Books for the Ruins Metropolis anthology. Eric T. Reynolds has announced the Table of Contents on his LJ. There are a couple names on there I'm very much looking forward to being ToC neighbors with.*
The cover for Ruins Metropolis:
And, because I didn't blog it properly at the time, below is the totally cool wrap-around cover for the Desolate Places anthology, which includes my story "Flying Solo." I love the way the image wraps to the back (this is a flat perspective, obviously, with the contributors listed on the back). I can't wait to read both these collections. One of the stories from Ruins Extraterrestrial , Justin Stanchfield's "Beyond the Wall," has been selected by Gardner Dozois for the 2007 Year's Best Science Fiction (#25). I'm very excited for Hadley Rille Books, and proud to be published in several of their anthologies.
